I drew this from the cover of Miles Davis' Tutu. I was afraid to draw the other half of his face because Im never very good at drawing 2 eyes that line up/ are of relatively similar size.

3:22 pm - Ah, apathy.

So, I've discovered I wasn't cut out to be a community person. I don't want to run a community afterall. I intended to make this a cool place to get decent crits on your work but I just can't be bothered, honestly. I don't really care about Live Journal enough to actually continue to build and maintain this community. Sorry if anyone joined here with high hopes but my heart's not in it. It would be a chore. And for what?

I guess the fact that I started this community and never even posted a single piece of my own work might have been a dead giveaway as to exactly how little enthusiasm I'm able to muster.

7:38 pm - help

I'm trying to figure out the name of an artist...

He did big paintings on canvas where it was an image from far away and when you looked at it closely, it was different squares with different shapes\colors within the squares. I think he may have done a sort of pop art but I'm not sure what you would classify his work as. I think he also was from the 1980's, but i could be completely far off about the dates. His work seems recent though. Any ideas on possible artist names?

Sorry this community is so lame right now. I'll work on it soon but I've been a little uninspired. I also haven't done any art for a long while aside from the facial prosthetic I'm working on. I'll post pics soon.

9:00 pm - some sketches.

I've been doing a wee bit of sketching lately. I'm actually trying to get good at drawing faces from different angles and the more detailed features that I noramally avoid like, say for example, ears. I need some advice on how I could improve on these 'doodles'.

This is just a quick sketch I did the other day (whilst keeping in mind some of the feedback you guys gave me on my previous drawings). It's not really finished or anything. I've been a bit lazy as far as drawing goes. I haven't actually sat down and drawn anything spectacular since, but I'm trying to focus on perfecting proportions and features. (I'm a perfectionist).

My recent stuffCollapse )

tips and feedback would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Why is it that everytime I write a post in this community I get explosive gas?

6:04 pm - New

Hello. My name is Nicole. I am 17 years old and I am in persuit of a career in art. (preferably art education.)I just wanted to say thank-you for creating a community for those expecting an actual critique. I quit posting a lot of my work in amateur_artists because I could tell that people were full of BS when they were critiquing my work.

3:48 am - Hello. :D

Thankyou Jaclyn for making a community where I can actually get critiquied on my art. That was kindof the idea when I joined amateur_artists but people seemed to be praising things that remembled a little kids drawing (or atleast the same skill level as a child since I think, and the two of you will agree here, that art can come in all forms of expression including kiddish type drawings). I just think it's kindof wierd that some people think they're good when they could clearly use some work. It's like they're in denial or something. There has been a lot of times when looking at my friends page where I felt like saying to someone, in that community, that their art was a piece of crap.

one Because I think I can be a little mean towards people who seem to have no concept of what is good and what is not and
two people will be telling them how oh so great it is when there's a million things they could do to improve it.

However, who am I to say what is 'good' art and what is not, but I do have some sense of someone with true talent whether they're drawing doodles or fine, very detailed pieces of art. Obviously there will be things that I see in some people's art and think it's good that someone else will think is crap because maybe it's something only I identify with, but this doesn't nessicarily mean they are an artist. Basically what I feel with art is you have to start off with the basic technical skills. Once you've accomplished that you can go one to do whatever you want whether it be abstract, surrealism or whatever. ( <--------- Just goes to show how much I know about different styles of art :P).

okay anyway, enough banter, these are some pictures I have posted before except I never got the feedback I really wanted from anyone. I even asked when posting it, 'please tell me how I could have improved on this drawing' and I would only get people saying things like, 'wow, that's awesome, dude! Keep up the good work!' And I was just like, um..thanks. It's not that great but yeh.

here they are...Collapse )

6:24 pm - Hello! Welcome!

So...the introductory post. I have no idea where this community will go. There's a good chance that it'll be a failure but at least I'm giving it a shot. I do hope this goes well as I have created this community at the expense of everything I had on my own personal userinfo page. Because Livejournal is a dirty bitch, after you create a community, it sends you to the editinfo page. If you miss the tiny little box in the top corner that tells you you're not actually editing your community's info because you're a computer illiterate idiot like myself, you'll end up deleting your own personal info and replacing it with the community's info. Dicks. Anyway, that's why i hope this community turns out to be worth it. In the mean time if you'd like to know more about the community's owner, you'll just have to hold on until I can muster the energy to sit infront of the computer even longer and fix up my own page. So...I'm off to fix my journal and then do some invites and promoting.

Oh and I'm sorry for the boring look of this community. It's temporary. I have an idea of what I want.
